Women and Girls at Mossley

Laura and Leesa are an integral part of

Mossley Cricket Club and we are proud

to be the only team in the league to field

2 female players on a regular basis

As part of the club development plan, we are looking to develop a Women and Girls section within MCC over the next 5 years.

Women's cricket has gone from strength to strength internationally over the last few years and we would like to help develop female players at grass roots level and are extremely keen to bring more women and girls to our club, offering opportunities to play regular cricket in the Cheshire leagues.

We currently have two female players representing Mossley Cricket Club at senior level.  Both players are supported and encouraged in their development and would agree that playing men's senior cricket has only assisted in their progression and performance in the women's league.

In addition, we have had several junior girls represent Mossley Cricket Club at junior level, they are an essential part of our junior section!!

The 2018 season has seen big steps forward for women's cricket at Mossley Cricket Club.

For the first time in the club's history, a female player has been made vice-captain of the 2XI, Leesa Mellon has played an important role in supporting Barry Carney to lead the second team.

Three women, Leesa Mellon, Laura Griffiths and Lauren O'Reilly have all represented the club at senior level in both the first and second team. All three ladies play cricket in division one of the Cheshire Women's Cricket League.

For the first time, each junior age group have had a female representative play competitive cricket for Mossley. Edie Nightingale joined us through an excellent 'all-stars' programme and has captained the u9s. She will continue this role next season. Niamh Moss is an imperative part of the u11 and u13 teams. Niamh took her first hat-trick against Wistaston in the league, bowling 2.1 overs, 3 wickets for only 7 runs. Isla Johnstone and Megan Wood have also joined us this season, Isla has played U11s and Megan will represent the u9s next season.

All female players, regardless of age/experience are welcome to join Mossley Cricket Club. Contact: laura@mossleycricketclub.co.uk
