Steve Austin

Steve has been the leading man at Mossley Cricket Club for 30 years!  He joined Mossley in 1983, playing 1st team cricket as an all rounder before eventually moving on keep wicket.  He became chairman in 1988 and represented the club until 2005 before he sustained a knee injury.  Following minor surgery and rehabilitation he resumed playing in 2008.  He has been a stalwart at Mossley Cricket Club and is still leading the way, playing regular Saturday cricket (winning the bowling averages in 2017!).  He holds the committee together and ensures that the club is continually moving in the right direction.  Steve is the epitome of the Mossley mantra, he is a friendly, family man who sets high standards for all club members to follow, a welcoming face at an all inclusive club!

Development Plan Director

Facilities Director

Second Team Captain

Barry Carney

Barry started playing cricket as a schoolboy and joined his local cricket club in Liverpool.  Since then he has played for a small number of other clubs before joining the mighty Mossley in 2010.  Having taken a break from Saturday cricket for a number of years whilst his two children grew up, Barry continued to play midweek games in the Chester & District Midweek League.

He joined Mossley at the start of his twilight years and vowed to see out his time not getting too involved but simply turning out as and when required!  Such promises are seldom kept and he is now a stalwart of the club’s committee as well as the 2nd XI captain.

Barry is primarily a batsman but still occasionally turns his arm over in classic dibbly-dobbly fashion.  In his prime, he was like a gazelle in the field but these days, he usually turns out to field in his slippers!

Barry has played cricket for almost 50 years and still retains the enthusiasm he has always had for this beautiful game.

Hon. Treasurer

Charles Wright

Charles joined the junior section at Mossley Cricket Club back in 2007 as a bowler, and in his first season was the captain of the Under 15s team. In the next few seasons he played in the under 18s and also progressed into the 2nd and 1st XI senior teams taking 50 wickets in the 2010 season.

In more recent seasons, a case of the yips forced Charles to give up his bowling arm and he started wicket keeping as well as working on his batting, scoring his first 50 for Mossley in 2015.

Club Captain

First Team Captain

Gareth Cresswell

Gareth is an exceptionally talented cricketer who has been part of Mossley Cricket Club for over 10 years.  He originally joined the U13s and has stayed with the club ever since.

Gareth began his cricketing career as a bowler before developing into a wicketkeeper.  He has since given up the gloves and become a batting all-rounder, he holds the club record for the most sixes in an innings (10) and in a season (33).

Gareth has been the first team captain since 2014 and has brought back an enjoyable environment to first team cricket at Mossley Cricket Club.

Director of Coaching

Membership and Community Director

Child Welfare Officer

Laura Griffiths

Laura is an avid games player who began playing regularly at Mossley Cricket Club by accident!  Having played a little cricket at school, she joined the club as a regular spectator in 2011.  Having a Physical Education background and an idea of how the game is played, Laura found herself being asked to help out when the 2nd XI were short of players. By 2013 she was a regular member of the squad swapping hockey stick for cricket bat.  She had to adapt quickly to the men's game but was immediately hooked.  Although the occasional hockey shot still makes an appearance, playing in the men's set up has allowed her to develop a solid set of skills that stand her in good stead when playing in the women's leagues.  She was over the moon to receive 'Player's player of the year' in 2017.

Over the last few years, Laura has become particularly attached to the club and the unique team spirit that comes with being part of such a special club.  Following a year developing the club's junior coaching programme, Laura has joined the committee in an official capacity.  She has extremely high hopes for the future of Mossley Cricket Club.

Hon. Secretary

1st Team Vice Captain

Ben Chudleigh

Having had an 18 year 'career break' from cricket, Ben joined Mossley in the 2018 season eager to enjoy the game and field as close to the bat as possible. Attracted by Mossley CC's community spirit and family friendly atmosphere, he has loved playing in front of his wife and son who regularly come along and get involved.

After scoring his maiden fifty, he has stepped up to become vice captain for the first team next season and wants to improve his input to the side.  Keen to support the club however he can he has become club secretary this year and hopes to add value off the field as well as on it.

U14 & U11 Team Manager

Patrick Moss

In his own words, Patrick has played cricket since ‘I don't know when’! His first memories of playing are with his Dad at the side of the house and then' test matches' with Adrian Austin - they even mowed the field and created a strip opposite his house!

Patrick captained both Marlfields Primary and Westlands (now gone) Secondary Schools and represented East Cheshire at U15 level - around the time that he started at Mossley Cricket Club.

Patrick represented both 1st and 2nd team in his first few years - winning the league bowling averages in 1988. He played 1st team in general since then, captaining for numerous seasons.

Patrick has several centuries to his name - both when opening the batting - both when chancing his arm!

Patrick has performed many years of hard work as ‘Assistant' Groundsman for many years, as well as holding the important roles of Secretary and League rep for the last 6/7 years - only relinquishing this year to concentrate on the juniors (and playing the odd senior game).

As U9 coach, his team won the league in 2017! This year will see Patrick and his squad of youngsters moving to the U11s league this year.

Patrick says he ‘Loves the game that much - I have travelled to both Australia and the West Indies to watch England play! Owzat!’

Patrick is the epitomè of ‘a clubman’ he has spent countless hours keeping Mossley Cricket Club ticking over - the club owes him a great debt of gratitude.

U9 Team Manager

Jim Nightingale

Brought up in Yorkshire Jim started playing cricket, along with everyone else, at a young age and soon felt at home in his whites.  Generally a Jack-of-all-trades (ie master of none) represented a few local youth and men’s teams before hang up the spikes before University (too long ago).  Did manage two crazy seasons of indoor cricket with some Kiwi friends in the mid 2000’s but that wasn’t really cricket!

Introduced to Mossley CC in 2018, via All-Stars, and as his responsibilities hinder lost days at the crease (and bar after) is keen to offer something back to the junior ranks and this lovely club in general in the form of enthusiasm and a few odd jobs where possible.

He also brings with him a full family (there are five of them in total) eager to help out too, whether on the field, in the pavilion or just running round being generally noisy.

Social Coordinator

Rob Lowe

Rob has played Cricket for two local teams within Cheshire at junior level and senior level, following a long line of cricketers from within his family. Over the years, he has been a member of many different organisations working to develop inclusion and improve participation in sport. He was successful in introducing deaf friendly sports and blind sport for youngsters. He found this a challenge but rewarding and helped him to fill in the gap since retiring as a player.

Rob became involved as a friend and supporter of Mossley Cricket Club after losing his brother Chris, a former player at Mossley. Rob has taken on Chris's responsibilities organising the club's social calendar and supporting the club's fundraising ideas. In order to support the club's plans and his brother's dreams to see the club develop. He is excited about the future of Mossley Cricket Club and looks forward to working with everyone involved within the club .

Parent Representative

Tim Crichton

Tim has been involved in Mossley Cricket Club on and off for many years, his most memorable time was playing for the senior team in 2013. After one season picking up a couple of wickets, dropping a few catches and gaining a wonderful batting average of 7 Tim made the decision to live the cricket life through his children instead!

Tim has two children currently involved in Mossley; Jacob plays for the under 11 and under 14 teams, whilst Alex has just started with the fantastic set up that is the All Stars. Over the last few years, seeing the junior section thrive under the current coaching and supporting team Tim took on the role of parent representative. The role serves as a focal point for any questions or issues to be raised by parents to the club through Tim.

Tim can be found standing in the rain at the side of the pitch throughout all training sessions or on junior match days he is generally trying to understand the complexities of the cricket scorers book whilst following the game.
